Dr. Harry Verby attended Bronx High School of Science (one of the top 5 public high schools in the United States) from 1953 to 1957.  He attended Cornell University and received a BA with honors in History from New York University (1961) and was elected to Beta Lambda Sigma, the national collegiate biology honorary society.  He received an M.D. from SUNY, Buffalo in 1965 and did his pediatric internship and assistant residency at the University of California Medical School in San Francisco (1965–1967), with a three-month elective at the Child Study Unit for ADHD and Learning Problems under Helen Goffman M.D., and a senior residency at Stanford University Medical School (1967–1968).

 

Dr. Verby was a captain in the US Air Force medical service, serving as chief of pediatrics at the 4756 USAF Hospital in Panama City, Florida (1968–1970) where he operated a weekly ADD Clinic.  He practiced General Pediatrics and behavioral medicine in San Mateo, California for 30 years, from 1970 – 2000, as Senior Partner with ABC Pediatrics Group.  Dr. Verby has in his behavioral medical practice, diagnosed and treated over 4000 patients with Attention Deficit Disorder and related conditions.  He is a Past Chief of Pediatrics at Mills Peninsula Hospital, having served for 6 years in this capacity.  He served as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at UCSF Medical School, San Francisco from 1975 - 2000.  Dr. Verby has undertaken postgraduate study with noted ADHD Specialists including: Daniel G. Amen, M.D. of Fairfield, California, Robert Hunt, M.D. of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, and Russel A. Barkley, Ph.D. of Syracuse, New York. Dr. Verby has been Medical Director and Director of Research at the Kitty Petty ADD/LD Institute of Palo Alto, California since 2001.

 

ADHD in the Young Child

Dr. Verby authored the section on pediatric diagnosis and medication management of childhood ADHD in the book ADD in the Young Child written by Cathy Reimers, Ph.D., Burlingame, California, and published by the ADD Warehouse of Plantation, Florida in 1999.  He has lectured extensively throughout the Western United States on the diagnosis and treatment of ADD/ADHD.

 

In January 2001, Dr. Verby was named as one of the top 500 doctors in the San Francisco Bay Area by San Francisco Magazine, for his behavioral medical work.  He was featured in the San Mateo Independent Newspaper with 2 front-page articles (see below) in February 2001, with accolades and comments from grateful patients treated for a variety of conditions.

 

Dr. Verby established the Behavioral Medical Clinic in June of 2000 in San Mateo, California to diagnose and treat a wide spectrum of behavioral medical problems, including but not limited to Attention Deficit Disorder and its associated medical conditions in children, adolescents, and adults.  Such associated conditions may be manifested by anxieties or phobias, depression, bipolar mood disorder, oppositional conduct disorder, eating disorders, and Tourette’s syndrome.
